Abstract

Estimation of the remaining life of a power transformer in service has been of a big concernto most owners, especially when it is known to have been overloaded either continuously orintermittently over long periods. Therefore, to make economical decisions for such transformerreplacement, it is critical to estimate the remaining life expectancy. This paper discusses, in detail, the insulation aging and life expectancy estimation of oil-filled transformers and also provides asimplified transformer overloading guidelines.
