Abstract

Thermal insulation for roofing is one of the best practices to reduce electrical energy consumption for space cooling and heating.  The roof insulation avoids retention heat into the room. The selection of optimum insulation material and optimum insulation thickness plays a vital role. The optimum insulation thickness for five different cities located in South India with varied climatic conditions were determined for four different materials and presented. Data base containing optimum insulation thickness, annual electrical energy consumption, annual energy cost and payback period on selected materials for five cities were also provided.
